Japanese booth at the Multi-Cultural Festival
In conjunction with the International students at Vancouver Island University, Agriculture students from Tamagawa University in Tokyo, Japan took part in an all-day event showcasing peoples around the world at the Multi-Cultural Festival on June 28th.
The Tamagawa University students have been staying in Nanaimo for the past 4 months for the Canada program . The students are required to complete 9 hours of Volunteer work while in Nanaimo and 20 of them chose to volunteer for the Multi-Cultural Festival. Along with help from a handful of International students from VIU, the Tamagawa students demonstrated traditional Japanese clothing, calligraphy, origami and best of all, food!
$152.97 was earned from the sales of some tasty Japanese 'finger food' and has since been donated to China's victims of the recent devastating earthquake in that country. The International Department at VIU is specifically raising funds for the area of Wenchuan, one of the worst affected areas.
